Umless Privacy Policy

Umless helps you practise speaking. This policy explains what happens to your voice and your data. The short version: your recordings and transcripts stay on your iPhone. There is no account, no advertising and no tracking, and we run no server that receives your speech.

Voice recordings

• When you record a take, the audio is saved in the app's private storage on your iPhone.
• It is transcribed on your iPhone by Apple's built-in speech recognition (the Speech framework). The audio is not sent to us or to any other service for transcription.
• Pace, pauses, filler words, hedges, pitch and volume are all measured on your iPhone.
• Recordings, transcripts and scores stay until you delete them: in the app (Settings › Delete all takes and recordings) or by deleting the app.
• If your iPhone's backups are on, the app's data may be included in your iCloud or computer backup, under your Apple ID, like any other app's data.

Microphone and speech recognition

The app asks for the microphone so it can record your takes, and only listens while you are recording. The first time you transcribe, iOS may download Apple's English speech model to your iPhone. That download is handled by iOS.

No account

Umless does not ask for your name, email address, phone number or Apple ID, and has no sign-in.

Purchases

Umless Pro is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment and manages the subscription; we never see your card details or your Apple ID. The app checks with Apple, on your device, whether your subscription is active.

What we do not do

• No advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs, and no tracking across apps or websites.
• We do not collect, sell or share your recordings, transcripts or any personal information.
• We do not use your speech to train any model.

Children

Umless is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. If the app ever starts sending any of your data off your device, for example for an optional feature, we will say so here and ask in the app first.
